This much-loved horticultural event, now in its eleventh year, will return on Saturday 26th May 2018.
Plantsmen from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex as well as leading nurseries from as far afield as Kent will be on hand to inspire the region’s gardeners. More than 1,400 visitors from throughout East Anglia and beyond are expected to attend. This year’s event will once again feature excellent value perennials, exotics, bulbs, shrubs, climbers and vegetables. There will also be several specialist tree nurseries attending bringing soft and hard woods as well as unusual fruiting and nut trees.
The Norfolk Olive Tree Company, based in Norwich, will bring Arbequina olive trees from Spain, a self-pollinating variety which is ideally suited to the UK’s shorter summers as it flowers early in the season. They will also bring a selection of Yuccas and Palm trees which are chosen for their hardiness and architectural beauty
Creake Abbey is also delighted to welcome newcomers The Walnut Tree Company, the UK’s leading grower of edible nut trees. Based in Kent, the Walnut Tree Company sells Walnut, Almond and Sweet Chestnut trees as well as Cobnut, a cultivated variety of hazelnut. It also sells the finest selections of varieties of apple, apricot, cherry, damson, fig, gage, plum, medlar, mirabelle, mulberry, nectarine, peach, pear and quince trees.
Burn Valley Nursery in South Creake will bring a range of fruit trees including apples, pears, cherries and nectarines and a selection of ornamental trees including red and yellow crab apples, flowering cherries and some Rowan trees. They will also bring some of their smaller box balls and cones and some standard bay trees along with their range of succulents, house leeks and some larger hardy palms.
As always, visitors to Creake Abbey will be offered delicious refreshments both at the Café and from the pop-up cafe within the Plant Lovers’ Day area. Visitor may also browse the wares and services of Creake Abbey’s five resident independent shops.
The gate opens at 10am and closes at 4pm. Entrance to the plant fair is £4 per adult and there is no charge for under 16s. The rest of the site is free to visitors.
